Using a 40+ year old view camera, editorial photographer Eli Warren creates moving and confronting fine art portraits.
This is an ongoing series featuring visual artists and authors with a single object they find sentimental. My goal was to depict an abstract idea, nostalgia, in a visual and tangible way. My hope was that asking creatives to be the subjects, I could leverage their introspection, and there would be interesting connections made between the subject and their object. My plan is to leave these connections unexplained so that the viewer can consider and debate what they might be for each image.
I did each of these shots with around 30 minutes with the subject. I didn't want them to seem posed, so I just had a conversation with each person and shot as we talked. I went with a simple set up to keep the focus on the person and their object.
