FAQ

Booking Questions:

  • I am available by appointment on Monday-Friday (Wednesdays I’m only available for in studio shoots). Use the booking buttons on my services page to see my calendar or email me if you need a day or time you don’t see available and I can see what I can do eli@eliwarren.com

  • I can be reached through my website contact form, directly at my email eli@eliwarren.com, on Patreon at patreon.com/eliwarren, or via text at 864-386-1060.

  • The best way is to use a booking link on the artist services page, but you can also email me directly at eli@eliwarren.com.

  • Generally I ask for 72 hours notice, but if my schedule isn’t too full I can sometimes accomodate shoots next day. Never hurts to ask.

  • I have many clients who will hire me this way and I’m happy to do it. For example Oye studios regularly hires me to come shoot for all of their artists in one afternoon. I also have a client in Charleston who hosts shoots at her studio and invites all of her friends to join so they can pitch in to cover my fee.

  • I can photograph your artwork at my studio or at your location. I do have a minimum fee for coming to you. I have a full lighting kit I use in either case, so lighting won’t be an issue if I come to you. I just need a space large enough to shoot the work, a 10x12 foot room is usually plenty.

Discount Details:

  • Every Wednesday from 10am-2pm I photograph work at my studio for $16, with no minimum like on regular days.

If you join my Patreon I have two membership levels you can sign up for to receive a discount. The Big Discount Club: Artist Edition, which gives you 10% off all of my services, or the Bigger Discount Club: Artist Edition, which allows you 25% off all services plus no fees for pieces under glass, additional file formats, and rush turnaround.

  • Every Wednesday from 10am-2pm I’ll be at my studio, shoot me a text or email me to let me know you’re coming in and how many pieces you’re bringing. I will post on Patreon if I have to cancel or if a holiday falls on that Wednesday and I won’t be there. You can try just showing up with your work but it’s best to give me a heads up.

The price per piece is $16, and there’s no minimum like on regular days. If you’re a Patreon Discount Club member you’re welcome to use your discount on these days as well.

  • I offer two Patreon memberships that include discounts on artwork services.

The Big Discount Club: Artist Edition offers 10% off all artist services, including work shot on Studio Discount Days!

The Bigger Discount Club: Artist Edition offers 25% all artist services, as well as no fees for rush turnaround, work behind glass, or additional file formats!

Shoot Info:

  • Absolutely! Be sure to let me know when you book your shoot so I can schedule accordingly. I also have some clients, such as museums, who like to take care of handling all of the work themselves during the session, and I can easily accommodate that.

  • Definitely! There are some limitations but generally artwork behind glass can be photographed. Slight cropping could occur with heavy mats or frames, and the color may be tinted very slightly because I can’t put my calibration card behind the glass (glass tends to have a very slight green hue to it). If you’re unsure, feel free to send me a snapshot of how the work is framed and I can let you know of any issues we may run into.

  • This depends a bit on the frame. A heavy mat or deep frame can cause a thin shadow at the edge of the piece that is usually best to be cropped out. I do have some solutions though, so talk to me about it before we start the shoot.

  • I use two strobes which are daylight balanced (5000k), a flash meter which I bracket one above, one at, and one below the reading, and I also use a DataColor Syder Checker Target photographed under the same lighting as the pieces which I use to adjust colors on my computer. I also work on an Eizo Calibrated monitor and a Eizo EX4 Calibrator. Color target files can be included with your files upon request.

File Info:

  • Files are delivered via email through a dropbox link (no account is required). Portrait proofs are delivered via a Lightfolio email link.

  • File turnaround is typically a week or less. I’m happy to work with you to get files to you faster whenever possible. I do have a small added fee for rush turnarounds. I also require invoices be paid before files are sent unless we’ve otherwise discussed it.

  • I photograph with my camera set to the adobe98 colorspace in a RAW format but I can output files in a variety of formats and sizes. Please let me know during the shoot what file types you’ll need.

JPEG sRGB - Great for social media, websites, and general use.

JPEG Adobe98 - Great for printing when tiffs aren’t an option.

Tiff 8bit - These are best for printing and contain the most data.

PNG - Some websites use PNG files.

    File Sizes:

High Res - Great for printing and cataloging, and backing up your work for future uses.

Large Format Files - If you’re printing larger than 30×40”, large format files are a great way to maintain clarity in the files. LF files are charged as 3 files in studio or 4 files if I shoot at your studio.

Low Res - Great for emailing, websites, and other small uses.

Zapplication - A standard format for art shows.

Custom - Many shows ask for very specific file types and I’m happy to create those for you.

  • My camera files are 4672x7602 (33MP or 15.5”x25.5”). The shape of the piece will change that some, square pieces will be closer to 15” square. The files can be printed much larger though, I’ve had billboards and 40”x50” reproductions made from my files without much loss in quality. I do offer large format files, which are stitched together from the regular files, and offer clarity at much higher print sizes.

  • I keep your files backed up in a RAW format for one month after the shoot, I keep JPEG copies for one year.

  • Not necessarily. Every printer and paper/ink combination is different. Many of my clients use George Lee for printing and he does great with color reproduction, but you may run into issues where adjustments are necessary to get the file on your screen to look like the printed piece. But with my color correction practices the files I send should get you very close.

  • Some paints and surfaces can show up in interesting ways when photographed. Please get in touch with me as soon as you can once you receive your files and I’ll work to fix it. Sometimes a set of custom settings will help, which I can store for future shoots, occasionally the work could need to be photographed again. If the problem is on my end I’m happy to redo the images free of charge. Also please note that if you’re working on an uncalibrated monitor, especially a laptop, the files may look off because of those.

Billing Info:

  • After the shoot I’ll send you an invoice through Square that you can pay online with a credit or debit card. I also accept cash, venmo, cashapp, or paypal.

  • Yes, I do ask that bills are fully paid before final files are sent.

  • I do have a small late fee for bills paid past 7 days of the shoot.

  • If you’re having trouble paying and need more time just let me know and I’ll be happy to set you up with a payment plan.
